Plastic film is used in many different ways. It is also produced through different methods. The processes are important in order to transform the original material into a more useful output. This will totally depend upon the specific application for which the output will be used. Below are some of the most common processes used in this industrial product.

Slitting

Slitting is the process used for narrower rolls of film. It makes use of a machine known as the slitter. The slitter is responsible for cutting the rolls depending on the width that the company needs. Some processes require extra fees or converting fees if customization is required from the output. The extra costs are utilized to produce more effective results in larger quantities.

Rewinding

This process rewinds a shorter length of film from the master roll. This is important in order to provide the length that a customer needs. Just like in slitting, this requires a converting fee.

Sheeting

Sheeting a plastic film also involves square cutting. This is a process where oversized non-square sheets are formed out of the master roll. The sheets are then cut to the required square size.

Interleaving and non-interleaving

Sometimes, a film of plastic is interleaved with some sheets of tissue paper. This is often required in order to sheet the thinner films. This is also deemed best in order to prevent the film from blocking or sticking to itself. This process is favored since the tissue or film is kept from being scratched while trimming and sheeting is done.

Laminating

There are some cases when a single layer of plastic film is far from what industries require. Multiple layering may be needed instead. In this case, laminating the multiple layers together makes it possible to produce a composite product.

Some service providers also render finishing services whenever a client needs one. These services may include rounding of the plastic film corners or hole drilling. The customer is allowed to specify the actual needs of the company.
